From Distance to Digital: From Canada to the Caribbean

December 16, 2010

In 2007, Prime Minister Harper announced Canada's commitment to Latin America. This commitment included scholarships intended to enhance skills that would advance the development and sustainability of the Caribbean. "Virtual" scholarships have allowed Caribbean students to study at a distance and as of January 2010, 28 students from the Caribbean are studying in the University Certificate in Counselling Women.

"I am grateful for the opportunity to obtain a University Certificate in Counselling Women, as it will help me in my quest to work in a field that is more rewarding to me, to society, and my country as a whole.

Thanks to the guidance, support and encouragement from my tutor, the library and my advisor, my online studies with Athabasca have been very interesting, manageable, and rewarding."
